    Soulja Boy Biography

    By admin | January 26, 2008

Soulja Boy, also known as DeAndre Ramone Way, was born in Chicago, Illinois on the 28th July 1990. The American Rappers hit single, “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” reached the Billboard hot 100 #1 spot in September 2007. DeAndre published the track online himself, before it was a number-one hit in the States for 7 non-consecutive weeks, which started September 2007

    In Soulja Boy’s Early Life

When Soulja Boy was 7 years of age, he moved to Atlanta Georgia where he became interested in music, especially rap music. Rap and Hiphop was a major influence on DeAndre. Soulja Boy, then aged 14, moved to Batesville, Mississippi with his father. Here his father provided him with music facilities including a music studio where Soulja Boy could explore his musical ambitions.

    Soulja Boy Career

In November 2005, Soulja Boy published his song “Crank That” on the popular Video sharing community website; Youtube. After raving reviews and comments on his videos, DeAndre then went about creating his own Youtube and Myspace pages. “Unsigned and Major” was Soulja Boy’s first album after recording “Crank That (soulja boy)” in May 2007. Soulja Boy then followed up this by recording a mediocre budget and quality video showing off the “Soulja Boy Dance”. Come end May 2007, Soulja Boy received his first airplay for Crank That and soon after met with Mr. Collipark and signed a deal with the ever famous Interscope Records.

August 12th, 2007 is when “Soulja Boy Crank That” appeared on the winning HBO series Entourage, and by September 1, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot RingMasters charts. DeAndre Way’s major label debut album Souljaboytellem.com was released in the US on October 2nd which peaked at #4 in the Top R&B/Hiphop Albums chart alongside the Billboard 200. It was reported that this album was created using only the demo version of Fruity Loops (Music production software).

William Lyons (Souljah Boy of the “Home Dogs”) sued DeAndre Way on December 9, 2007. Lyons claimed he was the first person who created the stage name “Souljah Boy”.

Very Recently, Soulja Boy was nominated for a Grammy for the best Rap song.

    Soulja Boy Views

The album “Souljaboytellem.com” had received mixed reviews, ranging from excellent to very poor. Many review magazines and e-zines had dubbed Soulja Boy’s sound the new trend in Hip-Hop music whilst this was met by others claiming Soulja Boy will be a one-hit wonder.

Many Critics alongside famous and long-term Rap artists such asSnoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Jermaine Dupri are claiming Soulja Boy’s sound an artistically typical of contemporary rap trends such as writing for the lucrative ringtone market, and the ascendence of “Southern hip hop”, very catchy mindless music that overthrows rap’s message and emphasism on a message in the song. Soulja Boy see’s the negativity in most of todays rap and hip-hop artists’ tracks and therefore strives to create upbeat and party-themed music. This evidently would give Hip-hop more of a “cleaner” name. Soulja Boy’s dance has been at many school disco’s due to its “sexual inuendo’s” however this is contrasted by the fact that Soulja Boy has had airplay on Disney Radio.
